| What
is Hosting? |
|
After
a website is built, you will need a place to store
the pages for quick response to viewers when
they access your site. When you are surfing the
Internet you are being taken (behind the scenes)
to the various servers (computers) that are hosting
the pages you are visiting. The ability to load
a page and have that page load quickly depends
in part on the services of the hosting company
(and the speed of the web surfer's computer and
Internet connection).

| What
is DNS and how does it work? |
DNS
stands for Domain Name System and it is the system
that the Internet uses to find the information
that you want. Domain names are registered with
a central organization in each country and each
domain name is associated with two servers, a
primary and a backup. In the United States the
registry is called InterNIC, and in Canada it
is CdnNET.
When
someone enters a Domain Name into a Web browser,
their Internet Service Provider's DNS computer
looks to its cache for an IP address associated
with that domain name. If the ISP does not have
an entry cached in its memory, it sends a lookup
query to InterNIC's or CdnNET's root servers which
returns the DNS location associated with the domain
name to back to the ISP. Once the ISP's computer
finds the IP number it can access the web site.

| What
is an IP Address? |
The
Internet Protocol address or IP Address is a numerical
identifier for a computer (server) attached to
the internet. An IP Address is four numbers separated
with periods.
IP
addresses are like street addresses - they refer
to specific servers and their physical location
on the network. Domain names are like the names
on the mailboxes, they are associated with people
and with content.

| Are
Dial-up Accounts Available? |
Absolutely
not. Our company is determined to provide the best
possible hosting solution to our customers, and
we feel that by offering dial-up accounts that we
not only degrade the service to our customers, we
also place a higher strain on our servers. You will
need to have your own account through a local ISP
in order to maintain your web site. Dial-up ISP's
crowd their bandwidth (data transfer) by providing
service to their local customers. We have devoted
our bandwidth to our customers, providing the fastest
Internet speed to serving your web pages to the
viewers.
