Export Address Book from Outlook Express:
  • Open Outlook Express; click on the “Addresses” icon at the top.
  • Examine each entry in your address book; verify the existence of a “nickname” If there is none, add a unique nickname to the entry. It cannot contain spaces.
  • Click on “File” located in the upper left hand corner of this box
  • Click on “Export”, then click on “other Address Book…” click on “Text File (comma separated values)”
  • Click on “Export”, then click on the “Browse” button and navigate to where you want to save the file either on your hard drive (C:) or the network drive (S:).
  • Name the file and click “Save”
(Write down the location and name of the file, you will need this info later).
  • Click “Next” and select the fields you wish to export by clicking in the boxes to select and put a check mark in the fields you want to export. Make sure First Name, Last Name, and Nickname fieldsare all checked! They are required by SquirrelMail in order to import properly! Any other fields are optional.
  • Click “Finish” then click “OK”.
  • Click “Close” and then close out of your Address Book and Outlook Express.
Import Address Book to SquirrelMail:
  • Log into SquirrelMail, click “Addresses” at the top (Next to Compose)
  • At the bottom of the addresses page, on the line labeled “Import Address Book”, select “browse” to locate the .csv file you just saved from Outlook Express.
  • Once you've located the .csv file (confirm that the path to the file shows in the text box next to the “Browse” button), select “Import CSV File” in SquirrelMail.
  • This will process the .csv file, look for errors, and present you with a table which contains the names and email addresses of those you want to import.
  • At the top of each column, choose which field in SquirrelMail you want that information to go in to. For example, at the top of the column containing email addresses, select “Email Address” from the drop-down menu. Any extra information (telephone number, etc) will fit into the “Additional Info” field. If there are fields you do not want imported, select “Do Not Include” from the drop-down menu at the top of the corresponding column.
  • Once you've selected which fields are to be imported, click “Finish”.
  • If there are any errors importing, SquirrelMail will inform you of which addresses were not successfully imported. Barring any errors, you're finished! Click “Addresses” one more time to verify that the addresses were imported correctly.
